lately i’ve been in a modern mood!
who doesn’t like clean, simple, minimal spaces? not necessarily for my own home, but maybe for a second home.
i love a white, neutral and grey color palette for a modern home. white lacquered floors, lots of marble, lots of windows, polished nickel and black accents throughout.
modern spaces are easy to decorate- you don’t need much! start with neutral and grey upholstery with clean lines, a large glass coffee table and few saddle brown leather stools- simple and easy!
i’d layer in a gilt console for a touch of glamour, a few wicker or rattan chairs for texture, a large serge mouille lamp for a touch of cool. add some large richard serra pieces of art, a few pedestals with sculptures, stack books everywhere, add lot’s of potted orchids- simple and easy, classic and chic!
clean and classic, simple and minimal, easy and chic- that’s my kind of modern! that’s the mood i’m in!

so, so pretty. i think francisco costa is genius – his apartment is beautiful! i was just looking for images of his home on long island but can’t seem to come up with any (vogue, maybe?)…. curious now.
thank you mark!

Mark,
Excellent piece…This is exactly what you were discussing the other day about traditional and mixing it up with a twist of modern. Here is so many perfect examples of modern mixing in a slight bit or more of tradition. Love this piece…~MSS
